Millions of Australians have ancestors that participated in the First and Second World Wars, as well as subsequent conflicts such as Korea and Vietnam. With many of the veterans of these conflicts no longer with us, it’s up to younger generations to honour their families’ heritage of service. Caring for your ancestor or relative’s military medals is one of the most appropriate ways to pay tribute to their service.

If you’re planning to wear medals on Anzac Day, it’s best to take them out of storage early to have a look at their condition and presentation. If you are considering having restoration or mounting work done, get in touch with a medal expert for a quote and the expected timeframe. Bear in mind that medal mounting usually takes anywhere from four to six weeks, depending on the number and type of medals involved. The art of medal mounting is time-consuming and labour intensive. Whether replicas or originals, medals can only be mounted by hand and requires a skilled mounter to achieve high-quality work.

Handing over a precious possession or heirloom such as a set of original medals shouldn’t be done hastily. Make sure the medal mounter you are considering has a verifiable track record and don’t hesitate to ask them how your medals will be stored and handled – remember, they may be irreplaceable!

Our medal team is waiting for your phone call and ready to provide advice and guidance ahead of Anzac Day. We have assisted thousands of Australians in restoring and mounting their original medals, as well as creating replica groups.
