A. Trooper William (or Billy) "The Assassin" Sing, a skilled pre-war marksman, served at Gallipoli as a member of the 5th Light Horse. Employed as a sniper, Billy Sing accounted for at least 150 enemy soldiers. Awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM), Billy Sing went on to serve with distinction on the Western Front as an infantryman, but fell on hard times on his return to Australia after the war. "The Assassin" died in poverty and obscurity in Brisbane in 1943.
