Under a bright clear blue sky with just enough wind to help the flags fly, the New Army Aviation Command was established on the 2nd of December 2021.

Announced by the Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Rick Burr, AO, DSC, MVO, the newly formed Army Aviation Command was described as a significant achievement. This step forward signified the new era of aviation for the Australian Army.

During the ceremony, the in-service fleet was listed as Boeing CH-47F Chinook, Eurocopter Tiger armed reconnaissance helicopter, NH Industries MRH90 Taipan multi-role helicopter and leased civil light utility helicopters. One notable absence from the list was the S-70A-9 Black Hawks, which have come to their end of service.
