    Q.   How did the Anzacs wash their clothes?

    A.   Fresh water was scarce at Gallipoli and little could be spared for clothes washing. It was common to use the morning’s shaving water to "wash" socks, however, most common method was to wash out clothes in the sea during swimming parades; the clothes would be spread on the beach to dry while the men were swimming and donned afterwards.
