    Q.   How did the men get to Gallipoli?

    A.   Diggers were transported from Australia to Egypt by ship and then also transported to the Gallipoli Peninsula by ship. Some men arrived off the beaches in warships and other in requisitioned merchant ships. At the landing on 25 April 1915 the troops were ferried ashore in ship’s boats and steam pinnaces; later, custom built, motor driven lighters were brought into service to ferry men, animals and stores to and from the beaches.
