    Q.   Where did their drinking water come from?
    A.   Australian and New Zealand engineers located and dug a large number of wells in the hills above the beaches. Water from these sources was reserved for men in the firing line. Other water was brought from Egypt in water lighters and the water was pumped ashore to holding dams and tanks on the beach and in the hills.
