Army Museum of South Queensland (formerly known as the Victoria Barracks Museum) is a Heritage-listed site containing many reminders of early life in the Colony of Queensland and the early days of the Commonwealth. The buildings date from 1864, although the majority were built just before or just after Federation. The Barracks is still in use today as a Tri-Service institution.
The Army Museum of South Queensland is operated by the Army History Unit in conjunction with the Queensland Military Heritage Foundation. It is the official Army sponsored Museum in South East Queensland related to all the corps and units in South East Queensland.
The collection includes weapons which saw service in Australian, Allied and enemy forces between 1899 and 1972. Medals on display include Boer War, Great War and Second World War campaigns and gallantry awards. A comprehensive display of replica medals enables easy identification of awards issued to Australian servicemen and women from about 1860 to 1980.
