The Corangamite Shire Council has restored three Great War memorials during the Anzac Centenary.

Under grants received from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the Shire restored the Avenue Camperdown War Memorial for $5,000 and the Derrinallum and District War Memorial for $3,455.

Nearly $4,000 has gone to refurbish the Cobden Memorial built in 1925.

The Shire has redeveloped the area surrounding the Cobden site to make it easier for local residents to connect with the memory of those who served in the Great War.

One person to be remembered is Private Philip King of the 20th Reinforcements, 14th Battalion. Private King was a farmer before enlisting on 17 December 1915. He was killed in action aged 34 years.
