The General Sir Arthur MacDonald, KBE, CB, Annex of The Queensland Military Memorial Museum presents displays of historic interest from Queensland’s military heritage. With uniforms from 1857, medals from the New Zealand (Maori) Wars to the present day, photographs from pre-Federation Queensland, weapons from an 1800 "brown Bess" musket to modern firearms and swords from Queensland units of the Australian Defence Force.
There are also exhibits on bandsman’s items, trench and convalescence art, and other memorabilia related to pre-Federation Queensland militia servicemen. Queensland raised and later disbanded units for use in colonial wars and maintaining local order. Queensland service personnel have since played an active part in Australia’s conflicts.
Several historical flags are also displayed, such as the Great War regimental flag of the 26th Australian Infantry Battalion, made by girls at All Hallows’ School. Also on display is the regimental flag of the 2/26th Battalion of the Eight Division carried after the Fall of Singapore, and hidden from the Japanese through Changi and the Burma-Thai Railway.
In total, the museum has over 2000 items on permanent display. The museum is located in Fortitude Valley and manned by the Victoria Barracks Historical Society, Brisbane.
