Political drama ‘Darkest Hour’ directed by Joe Wright (Atonement and Pride & Prejudice) will open this year’s Veterans Film Festival on Wednesday 18th October at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. In a press release, Festival director Tom Papas said that “Darkest Hour is a remarkable film. Gary Oldman’s transformation into Churchill is amazing and his performance is Oscar-worthy.” The film is due for public release in January 2018. We are thrilled to be premiering Darkest Hour in Canberra, added Mr Papas.

The story begins on the precipice of World War II, within weeks of becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill must decide whether to negotiate with Hitler, or fight on against incredible odds.  Darkest Hour stars Gary Oldman (Winston Churchill), as well as Ben Mendelsohn (King George VI), Kristin Scott Thomas (Clementine Churchill) and Lily James (as Elizabeth Layton, Churchill’s secretary)
